Don’t leave your oral care to luck

May 05, 2021

It’s fun and good times to boast about ‘Luck of the Irish’ for St. Patrick’s Day or enjoy the entertaining memes for National Lucky Penny Day. (It’s May 23rd, 2021 for those who haven’t circled it on the calendar yet.)

We all love a good lucky lotto winning story and a sprinkle of lucky dust that puts you in the right place at the right time to see a celebrity or have your number called for a big opportunity.

What we can’t leave to luck is our health. We’ve talked about the critical link between your gut health and your oral health and tips for keeping the immune system nice and strong.

The human body is an unbelievable puzzle - a machine rather, that relies on systems to work together to maintain balance and health. It takes work and intentional effort to keep that healthy balance in our bodies, especially when our environment has things working against nature, like chemicals and pollutants that can be harmful.

How do you take control of your oral health to keep that machine running smoothly? Go back to the basics, shall we? In simple terms: Look better, feel better, do better.

Flashing a smile with bright, white, clean teeth not only looks good, but makes us feel more confident at the same time. Our daily routine has a huge impact on how our smile looks, so why not get your routine tuned up to put your best smile out in the world every day.

Brush. Floss. Rinse. Dentist. These steps sound pretty basic, and they are, but dig deeper into them to tweak your routine just right, with the right timing and tools.

Step 1 is brushing for two minutes in the morning and two minutes at night. Use small circular motions (no sawing!) and don’t forget to give the gums a little love when brushing.

Soft bristles are important in your routine. It does not take stiff bristles to remove the plaque on your teeth. In fact, brushing too hard or with hard bristles can damage the tooth enamel. RADIUS toothbrushes are all made with soft, vegetable-based nylon bristles designed with a rounded tip and perfect 45 degree angle for brushing.

The tongue gets bacteria build up, too. So, give it a brush while you are in there. Your breath will be glad you did!

Let’s talk about flossing. This is a big one, and admittingly, it’s one that often gets skipped by about half of brushers. The reason why flossing is a necessary step in the perfect oral care routine is that you just can’t get to all the bacteria on your teeth from brushing.

Why? Because not all of your tooth surface is exposed for a brush to reach. The sides of your tooth, while you don’t see it necessarily, can be a magnet for bacteria build up. So, slide that floss in there and get rid of the nonsense.

We are obsessed with how RADIUS Floss makes flossing pretty great, enjoyable actually. The sponge floss is super flexible and coated in a plant wax that glides in between your teeth like a dream!

Our natural silk floss gives you an incredible clean in between teeth, too, and is 100% biodegradable and free of glutens, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, GMOs, unnatural coloring, phthalates, parabens, or any other harmful additives.

But it’s the travel sachets that will really put you over the moon about flossing. These little sachets are as easy as tearing to open and using the paper packaging to wrap (instead of your fingers getting the purple finger from wrapping) the pre-measured floss.

Once you’ve mastered the right brushing and flossing tools and techniques your smile is going to shine bright. With clean, fresh beautiful teeth you can be proud, you’ll be proud and confident that your daily routine is paying off!

The gut check isn’t just a figure of speech. To have a balanced digestive system, it’s important to know the ingredients and impacts of those ingredients that go into your body and on your body.

Take toothpaste, for example. Some of the ingredients to avoid in your daily routine include fluoride, artificial sweeteners, Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), Carrageenan, and Triclosan.

There’s no place for chemicals like these in a healthy gut biome, so skip it. RADIUS makes it simple to do that with all natural, organic toothpaste free from all chemicals, pesticides, GMOs, glutens, fluoride, saccharin, SLS, SLES, carrageenan, parabens, triclosan, artificial sweeteners or additives, propylene glycol, detergents, or synthetics of any kind.

Stress, chronic illness, heart and kidney disease, anxiety, and depression - these are certainly not things we want to roll the dice on. Take control of how you feel.

One of the basic steps in the right oral care routine is seeing your dentist twice a year for routine checkups and cleanings. A professional cleaning allows a dentist to take care of any plaque or tartar build-up before it becomes an issue.

Interesting fact: In Denmark, dental care is free for all Danish citizens under the age of 18, making it easy to set a good precedent for dental health from an early age.

Speaking of good dental health early, it’s never too early to start practicing these good brushing habits for kids. Developing the good habits as a toddler is not only practical but it’s doable.

Let them love their toothbrush and having fun at brushing time. Soft bristles and a comfortable grip for kids helps, right along with a great tasting kids toothpaste they love and you love knowing it’s free from harmful additives.

If there’s one thing RADIUS has learned as a nature-inspired company trying to do right by this beautiful planet, it’s that it takes intentional effort to do better. If everyone goes about their life with no regard for decreasing air pollution, landfill waste, and chemicals we ingest, then it’s likely no real change will happen.

It takes real effort and thought-leaders leaning in to lead the charge to turn a ship around. This theoretical ship is our world, and we simply cannot leave it up to luck to take care of it.

Some of the things we look at every single day at RADIUS is choosing the right materials, processes, and packaging to get great oral care products into your hands that doesn’t not leave a giant eco-footprint.

When you think of the impact each of your daily routines has on water and waste in your community, you realize we ARE in this together. That makes each product choice you make intentional and important.

When you choose RADIUS floss, you choose 100% biodegradable packaging, and you choose to put less waste into the world. When you choose a RADIUS Forever Brushyou are choosing to use a replaceable toothbrush head design and keep using the toothbrush handle for longer instead of tossing the entire brush after a few months.

Again, it’s a buying decision that matters. No lucky coincidence there. It’s purposeful and designed to be better, together.

Luck and good fortune are welcome here anytime. We all need a little luck! But, don’t leave your oral health up to chance. It’s too important to your life and our environment to ignore our own responsibilities.

Get into the routine, pick the right tools and products that fit the mantra to look, feel, and do better with your everyday routine.
